#ds364 – Medicine for the Soul

"Illustrate the word free nowadays. Go with the initial issue that pops into your head and make a photograph based mostly on that thought"
This assignment was hard. Not due to the fact I could not come up with an thought, but since everything about the way I reside is a rather decent illustration of freedom. How does 1 illustrate a notion when she has in no way really skilled anything at all but that notion? In the end, I decided that knowledge and the freedom to pursue it was rather essential. In constructing the image (destroying my living room in the procedure!) I commenced inserting other ideas of freedom, or lack of freedom, by means of the placement of titles. Not every title has a which means – and many that did have meaning ended up out of frame as I composed the image – but it was a entertaining exercise.

Answers:
I am sorry to tell you that the book you’re seeking for is beneath copyright and hence not legally available as a cost-free PDF download. A sample of chapter 16, nonetheless, is offered on the publisher’s web site – nttp://intl.elsevierhealth.com/e-books/v. .
The ideal I can get you is this link nttp://www.netlibrary.com/urlapi.asp?act. for a service called NetLibrary. I have no experience with them, but if your institution subscribes you must be ready to access it. My understanding is that they supply on the internet versions of numerous books and textbooks, targeted at institutions of increased education. Sadly, private accounts do not appear to be offered. interesting idea! that was a tough one indeed
I see some great titles! Great idea and composition…tough assignment to be sure…
The titles were what drew me deeper into the image, starting with that isolated volume on the chair. Obviously a thought-out composition, I do not envy you the restocking of the shelves! Good interpretation!
Great idea; clear illustration…
very cool important idea
I like you thought process for this assignment. That by itself is an expression of being free.
great idea and execution. I like how you illustrate your process at the same time.
Very good Idea for this! I like the ‘there’s a lot more where that come from’ sort-of-hint, by also showing the full shelf in the background.
Thanks, everyone!
[http://www.flickr.com/photos/hoppingcrow] There are several titles that I wish had made it into the final crop, but I had already spent so much time arranging and rearranging that I decided I had to let it stand. Barbara Kingsolver’s Prodigal Summer is one I was sad to see missing in the final. That’s a book I know you would enjoy, by the way!
[http://www.flickr.com/photos/30484765@N05] That’s exactly the feeling I wanted to get across. The first image that popped into my head was actually this fabulous little used bookstore in my old Toronto stomping grounds – I wanted to give the same feel even though I don’t have four stories of cramped space to work with!
Personally, like the choice of Rushdie as the focal point.
Just wondering…was that deliberate?
[http://www.flickr.com/photos/sparklefade] It was, indeed! For two reasons, actually – both specific book and Rushdie generally.
I haven’t read that particular one – but I might do now that you’ve brought it to my attention. I guess Midnight’s Children may also have worked well. It’s story centres around the stroke of midnight on the day India gained her independence from the British – freedom!
