MOUSSA B.H.YOUDIM Short BIOGRAPHY
Prof. Moussa Youdim was chairman of Pharmacology from its inception in 1977
to 1994. He is now the Finkelstein Professor of Daily life Sciences and Professor of
Pharmacology at the Technion- Rappaport Loved ones Faculty of Medicine and the
Director of the Eve Topf and National Parkinson Foundation (USA) Centers of
Excellence for Neurodegenerative Ailments Investigation and Teaching at Technion.
He is nationally and internationally acknowledged for his investigation in depressive
illness , Parkinson's condition and Alzheimer's disease and drug development for
these problems and for establishing the importance of monoamine oxidase and
brain iron metabolism for brain function that can lead to cognitive impairments
in ADHD and neurodegenerative ailments.. His analysis at Oxford University
led to the discovery of the monoamine oxidase B inhibitor, l-deprenyl
(selegiline) as an anti Parkinson drug in 1975 which was accountable for
altering the prospects of treating Parkinson's illness and other
neurodegenerative disorders with drugs that would possess feasible illness
modifying (neuroprotective) activity. His research at the Technion has led to the
improvement of the 2nd generation of monoamine oxidase inhibitor antiParkinson drug,
Rasagiline (Azilect, FDA approved) considered the initial
neuroprotective-condition modifying drug for Parkinson's Illness, in collaboration
with Teva Pharmaceutical Co. and the multifunctional neuroprotective antiAlzheimer drug currently
designated Ladostigil (Television 3326) now in Phase IIa,
with Prof. Marta Weinstock of Hebrew University. For the past 10 a long time he has
been advocating development of multimodal neuroprotective- neurorestorative
drugs with different neuron targets as treatment for neurodegenerative
disordrers., a single of whicjh is ladostigil. Far more not long ago he has created with
Prof. Mati Fridkin of Weizmann Institute novel multifunctional iron chelators
with monoamine oxidsase and cholinesterase inhibitory activity such as HLA-20,
M30, M30C and M30D for remedy of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and
Alzheimer's condition, Lewy Body disease, CDK and diabetes. These drugs
account for much more than one hundred of Prof. Youdim's considerable number of
international patents in the area of neuropsychiatric drug development and
cardiovascular drugs. Prof. Youdim serves as a consultant for several key
international pharmaceutical companies. He serves on many National and
International scientific and grant giving committees. He has published far more
than 800 scientific content articles and edited 45 books and has been on the Editorial
Board of 43 International scientific journals. He has received several significant
awards and honours from Israel, U.S., England, Germany, Iran, Denmark,
Holland and Switzerland, including two Honoary Doctorate of Philosophy,
Honory Causa, from universities of Semmelweis University (Hungry) Qingdao
University in China. Not long ago he was created Honorary Professor and
Distinguished Chair Professor at Hong Kong and Poly U universities in Hong
Kong and Distinguished Scientific professor at Seoul Yonsei University. From

|Oxford Textbook of Medicine: 3-Volume Set (C Oxt T Oxford Textbook)
The Oxford Textbook of Medicine provides all that any doctor needs to know to practice top-level internal medicine. It gives compreensive coverage of the epidemiology, aetiology, and mechanism of disease, as well as clear, unambiguous coverage of the diagnosis, practical management and prevention of the entire spectrum of medical disorders. There are major introductory sections on the scientific basis of disease; and in the system-based clinical sections genetic predisposition, pathophysiology, pathogenesis, molecular mechanisms, and cell biology are covered in depth for all significant medical syndromes. Clinical descriptions of diseases are clearly and memorably written, based on the experience and insight of the authors--many of whom are among the world's most distinguished medical scientists. Chapters are not only "evidence based" but also on clinical experience and a thorough survey of all the relevant literature. Throughout, the approach of OTM is humane and ethical and, at the same time, factual, reliable, honest(especially where knowledge is limited) and rigorously scientific.
This is not just a textbook of "First World" medicine. It provides practical guidance for doctors working in a variety of medical setting the value of a logical clinical approach rather than immediate resort to expensive imaging and laboratory tests. Moore of the contributing authors than ever before are from outside Europe, including strong representation of North American medicine.
The new editorial team has ensured that the OTM continues to reflect rapid changes in medical practice: there are new sections on intensive care, alcohol and drug abuse, clinical pharmacology and therapeutics, world health, clinical trials and evidence-based medicine, adolescent medicine, sports medicine, and emergency medicine; more than half the contributors are new for this edition; and most of the text has been heavily revised. The striking new page and cover design reflect the significant changes made in this new edition.
The Textbook is illustrated by over 2000 two-color diagrams and many color Plates. The index is the most detailed and user-friendly of any major medical textbook: in an emergency, the reader can access information quickly- whether on the ward, in office or at home.
Like its predecessors, OTM4 will be the trusted and ultimate reference in libraries, hospitals, doctors' consulting rooms, solicitors' offices, press offices, and primary care practices worldwide.
