Q&A–: Is – God’s Medicine Is Best (herbs, vitamins and minerals) by Linda Wise really the best book on the market?
I like this manual, and use it all the time. Do you think this is the best book on the planet?
The following is the answer: (Hint: For answers, no site audit.)
Answer by Andrew
I have this book, and I have to agree that it may as well be the best. My family use the ideas in this book to stay healthy, some of my friends used the remedy for cancer it worked…so,
Just because it was not yet advertised on Oprah, it doesn’t mean is not the best.

Auroville 017 ——————————————- Smell of camphor
Karpuravalli
Coleus ambonicus
This plant carries the flavour of camphor and hence the name. Karpuram in Tamil means camphor.
Auroville with its interest in farming, eco-friendliness etc has many of those working on indigenous herbs and plants either growing them or studying them. They have many intresting books on flora and fauna found in the dry evergreen forests of South India.
This plant has been used by locals for a long, long time. It is mainly used as to treat coughs and colds, especially in infants. While many native forms of medicine have been proved to be effective in some instances, only in recent times real scientific studies have started.
I read a detailed report by a team from a respected medical institution recently which studied closely the neonatal care and health implications. Blind faith on traditions mostly turn out to be responsible for poor health records in rural India. While nationalists tend to glorify indigenous systems of medicine their actual track record is low if we go by the statistics on life expectancy, infant mortality, milestone development etc. Simply because everything does not always work when we don’t know what we are doing and why.
While there is a great value on traditional wisdom based on empirical evidence, blind adherence does not get us anywhere. This tendency is further reinforced by blatant commercial exploitation by big corporations with business focussed research. Some Anerican firms patented things like Neem oil, basmati rice and such which have been used for centuries in India.
In the meantime, I for one will try to understand more of what is around and not look for miracle cures. Prevention is the best cure for most ailments. Has always been.
